Reunion History

Celebrating 44 Years of History and Growth

And it came to pass......The Lindsey Family Reunion

As a child in the house of Yvonne Lindsey-Ware there were conversations about family members; this cousin, that cousin, aunts and uncles, which led Yvonne to ask her mother Josephine Lindsey, about all these people with a name, but not a face. This seed was planted in Yvonne's mind. She wanted to know the family members on her fathers side of the family, "The twelve tribes of Henry and Lula Lindsey".

After many years of yearning and having the desire to meet and know her family members, in the year of 1979 Yvonne came home and wrote the vision for the Lindsey Family Reunion. She drew up plans and shared them with her sister Willie Lindsey-Rankins. Together the planning began: the telephone calls, the letters, the menu, the place and the music. The rumors of a family reunion spread throughout the United States and abroad. Yvonne, Willa and their friends organized and began the first Lindsey Family Reunion. Yvonne's dream and vision became a reality.

In 1979 the first Lindsey Family Reunion was held in Detroit Michigan. In 1980 the second family reunion was held in Jersey City, New Jersey. The late Ester Drummond of Chicago, Illinois also wanted to know "where are all my people", so in 1981 we had the third reunion in Chicago, Illinois. This legacy to know my people continues to evolve even today.
